Allowing God to Redeem the Time in Your Hands

The best-selling author of Redeeming Your Time, Jordan Raynor, sits down with me for a delightful conversation on his new book to talk about the seven powerful biblical principles for being purposeful, present, and wildly productive in an age where we’re forced to just move through the motions of life.

What is a common misconception you have about the time in your hands? Mine would be that I need to be productive. All. The. Time. And being productive means constantly doing something that will greatly impact my future and the lives of those around me.

However, as I talked with best-selling author Jordan Raynor and after I read his book Redeeming Your Time, most of my misconceptions about “making time” and “time management” just went away.

Simply put, the only way we can allow God to redeem our time is by shifting our focus on our Redeemer Jesus Christ (not on our growing to-do lists!), the most productive human being who has ever lived. If He can redeem us from sin, He can surely redeem us from slavery to time, too.

Fact: there are a lot of things that attempt to distract us from God’s will for us on how to spend every single day. And it’s the same with Jesus!

When He was walking on Earth, there were a lot of times when people and circumstances attempted to distract Him and take Him away from what God wanted Him to do in a day—people were sick and dying and in need of healing and new life—yet He was always present. He was always in the moment. He was always with us

If you want to allow God to redeem your time, too, here are the seven principles that Jordan talked about in his book—in a nutshell. I pray that these will help you redeem your time, too, the way they did mine

Put God at the beginning of your every day

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” —Mark 1:35

Remember how Jesus always started His day by being with God? That’s the way we ought to do it, too. When we start our day by listening to God, we will learn to listen to how we’re meant to spend the rest of the day, too. This is the first and most important key to redeeming our time.

Let your “yes” be a “yes.”

“All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” —Matthew 5:37

The problem with us is we say “yes” even when we actually mean to say “no.” Practice saying “yes” when you fully and wholeheartedly mean to say a “yes.”

Prioritize.

“While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ And immediately the leprosy left him.” —Luke 5:12-13

Since we’re only limited beings, we must prioritize the things we commit to. We don’t have to say “yes” to everything and to everyone, but we have to say “yes” to the important things or to the things where God is leading us.

Be okay with spending time in the quietness.

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” —Luke 5:16

Spend time in the peace and quiet with God. When your mind is starting to get cluttered, don’t be afraid to withdraw for a while and realign your day and time with the Author of Time—God Himself.

Be present.

“While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.” —Matthew 9:10

We are not omnipresent like God. And, believe it or not, this is okay. God is okay with this. Jesus, who definitely had a lot of things to do and who was dealing with a lot of things during His limited time on earth, took time and stayed in the present. He was present in teaching His disciples and in being with the people He was meant to be with in the moment.

Embrace rest.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” —Mark 6:31-32

Taking a break from everything is okay. Resting in God is okay. It is productive to be still and just delight and enjoy being in the presence of God. When we’re fully refreshed in God, we can also fully give ourselves to His will for us.

Eliminate hurry.

“It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” —John 13:1

In the words of Jordan, “God loves you regardless of how productive you are in this life.” Jesus loved us to the end of His life on earth. His joy was complete when He redeemed us from everything that enslaves us.

This is why we can also eliminate being a slave to a life of hurry. We are now able to delight, enjoy, and cherish where God leads us every day because we don’t have to prove anything to Him.

What we do or don’t do doesn’t matter to God; He loves us regardless of how many things we’ve accomplished on our to-do lists. Today, may we keep this thought in our hearts: that we are loved by God, period.

If you want to dive deep into these seven powerful time principles, listen to my conversation with Jordan and don’t forget to purchase his latest book Redeeming Your Time.

Reset Your Life to Live the Best Life Ever

Audio Version

How You Can Reset Your Life Today

In hard times, we just want to get our life together and hit reset.

The good news is, resetting your life is possible here and now. It doesn’t need to happen tomorrow, in a decade, or never. Resetting your life can happen anytime you need a change.

The second good news is that changing your life is a choice. You can choose to stay in the status quo, or you can let go and admit that you need God’s help.

Resetting your life starts with the mind

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1–2)

If we look at this verse, we will see that transformation happens through the renewal of the mind. Lasting change doesn’t happen when our external situations change--when our finances are in order, when the dream house is built, or when the travel plans push through. Change is first and foremost, internal: when the mind is renewed. In simple terms, if you want to reset your life, then you have to start with your mind.

The problem with the mind is that it is corrupted. We would rather follow what family, friends, experts, influencers, or culture says instead of what God says. For example, the world will tell you that success is defined by being rich. But God says that the goal is not simply to be rich but to honor God with our wealth. The pressures to conform to this world is what makes our lives dissatisfying, overwhelming, purposeless, and burdensome. In contrast, living our lives for God makes us fruitful and fills us with joy, no matter what our circumstances may be.

In a situation like this, how do we renew our minds so we can reset our lives?

Surrender your life to God. God alone has the power to transform your life from the inside out. Maybe it’s time to go to Him and admit that you can’t do it on your own. Maybe you’ve tried so hard the past months or even years without success. Remember this, when you are weak, God is strong. The cross of Jesus allows us to go to God in humility, confess our failures, and receive His refreshing and renewing grace.

Feed your mind with God’s Word. The bible tells us to think about good things, things that are pure, right, noble, lovely, and admirable. Meditating on God’s Word and reflecting on how it applies to our lives can powerfully change our mindsets and actions. For example, do you want to change the state of your finances? God says a lot about money in His Word. Grab your bible and choose a nice journal to record God’s message for you. In challenging times, you will find God’s Word to be a source of strength.

Spend time in rest and prayer. Take a sabbath or go on a spiritual retreat. Sometimes, we all need what Elijah needed when he was feeling angry and depressed: good food, a good rest, and a good Word from God.

Surround yourself with a nurturing community. God is all we need, but God also designed us to walk with others. Find friends and family who can give you encouragement and help you in your journey of resetting your life.

The power to reset your life lies in God’s hands. May He give you the grace to transform your life today!

Going Back to the Word in Times of Trial - Interview with Elyse Fitzpatrick

3 Promises from the Bible to Help You Crush the Biggest Lies from the World

One thing we have to remember every day is that we are not citizens of this world; we are, first and foremost, citizens of heaven because we are God’s children.

It is important to remember this truth, along with God’s promises from the Bible, because it will help you recognize the lies that this world throws at you—especially whenever you are going through trying seasons

Whenever we’re faced with tough circumstances, we tend to listen to voices that aren’t from God. We tend to listen to voices from the enemy that just discourage us.

So during these times, we need to go back to the Word. We need to quiet our thoughts and listen to God instead, to allow Him to remind us of who He is and His power to carry us through our life’s valleys.

Here are three common lies, which I got from my conversation with Elyse Fitzgerald, that we tend to accept as facts and three Biblical promises that are actually true to help you fight these lies from the enemy

Lie: “You are not enough.”

God’s Truth: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:10

Even before God put us in our mother’s womb, He already had a plan for us. It’s not true that we’re just a shot out of the void; we were predestined by God for good works that give glory to His name. This is why we’re enough.

Whatever abilities we have, God provided these for the work He has set before us. And whatever abilities we lack, God will provide those too according to the abundance of His grace.

Lie: “You will not get through this.”

God’s Truth: “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” —John 16:33

God’s children will always get through anything and everything. Why? Because He has overcome the world, which means we live victorious lives too because we’re His children and we’re partakers of His kingdom.

Our role in this difficult time? We need to pray for peace and wisdom. We need to continue looking to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection to remind ourselves that salvation is always at hand because Jesus has already saved us on the cross.

Lie: “You have no power.”

God’s Promise: “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.” —Isaiah 40:29

Our God is our endless source of power and strength. And through what Jesus accomplished on the cross, we are partakers of these too.

When you feel like you’re powerless in the face of temptations or challenging decisions, remember God’s power that continues to hold you to this day.

God didn’t bring you this far just to release His hold on you; He brought you to this day to prove that He is powerful in the midst of your impossible situations.

Renewing Your Mind and Transforming Your Life: Interview with Dave Martin

How To Start Your Day Right

We often take the first few minutes of our days for granted, without knowing that our morning habits have the power to change the tone of our entire day.

Then we go about our daily tasks mindlessly, and we wonder why there are moments when we’re impatient, demotivated, or irritable when nothing disastrous happened and we’re supposed to be in a good mood.

If, like me, you want to transform your day and your life daily, then it’s time to change your morning habits.

My good friend Dave Martin calls his first hour of every day his “Hour of Power.” And I think it’s a good practice that we should all adapt.

What should our “Hour of Power” look like if we want a great day? It involves reading the Word of God and meditating on it.

We often take our time with God for granted. We think we can just insert it somewhere during the day. We give God the leftovers of our time and ask Him to change our lives with what little we give.

This isn’t how we’re supposed to live.

There is a reason why Jesus spent His early mornings in prayer and in communion with God. It gives Him time to listen to God, to be led by God, and to submit His entire day to God’s will. Yes, we can talk to God, but it makes a whole lot of difference when we quiet our thoughts and listen to what God wants us to do for the day.

Through our “Hour of Power,” we allow God to lead us because He knows best, instead of us trying to make sense of what’s happening in our lives daily. We can trust Him and His ways because He goes before us and knows everything.

If you have been wanting to transform your life for the longest time but somehow you just can’t seem to get started, I invite you to spend your first hour every morning in communion with God. I assure you that it is life-changing to listen to Him every day.

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” —Mark 1:35

Communicating Beautifully to Bless Your Relationships: Interview with Carolyn Santos

Part One Audio

Part Two Audio

How to Speak Life to Our Relationships

Using our words is easy, especially when our only intention is merely to provide an outlet for our feelings.

But communicating and speaking life is hard. It involves intentionally going out of our way to understand someone and to feel their emotions. Is this even possible when we’re all made differently and we have different communication styles?

By our own efforts, it’s not possible. By the grace of God, it is very possible.

Whenever we approach our relationships, we need to approach it differently from the way we’re used to.

Our usual way of approaching conversations, even those with the people we hold dear, is always to be heard. We need to make them understand where we’re coming from. We need to make them listen to us. It’s all about us!

However, the Word of God says that we need to renew our minds so that we don’t act sinfully and selfishly. A renewed mind communicates with different intentions: to understand and to speak life to others.

As we go about our day, let us go out of our way to learn and to practice how we can encourage others and build them up. Let us approach our conversations, even the difficult ones, with the intention of understanding the other person and restoring our relationships. Let us also open our hearts humbly for correction, so we can become better versions of ourselves.

Our words have power. They can either tear us down or build us up. I hope we always choose the latter. I hope we always choose to communicate life to others. I hope we always choose to follow God’s example of communicating life and restoration to each of us.

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” —Ephesians 4:29

Partnering with God to Fulfill His Will for You: Interview with Ashley Nemeh

Knowing the Source of Your Strength

God, there is no way I can do this in front of people. There is no way! But you know what, Lord? I’m just going to do this.” —Ashley Nemeh

There is something so beautiful about surrender.

Humility is a leadership skill that we overlook so often. We admire people who are confident, who appear like they’ve got their lives and choices figured out.

Yet we overlook those who kneel down in prayer, arms raised to God, begging Him for strength to go one.

Surrender is a sign of humility. It is admitting to ourselves that we can’t do it on our own and humbly coming to God to tap into His strength as we do the work He has set for us to do.

God’s work for us is never easy. It is often scary, intimidating, and it requires us to step out of our comfort zones. When doing His work, God asks us to surrender and trust that He will provide us with the power to overcome and to excel.

But how? How do we tap into His never-failing and never-ending strength?

In critical moments when you’re feeling helpless and despair, pray.

Come to God in thanksgiving, knowing He will always come through for you. Present your request to Him and humbly tell Him you cannot do this task on your own.

Then breathe in and breathe out. Quiet your fears and listen to God’s voice. Rest assured that the Holy Spirit will work in you and through you in ways that you’ve never seen Him work before.

Partnering with God requires 100% surrender because He carries 100% of the load.

God will always fulfill the promise He gave you. He will do His will because He is faithful. You will only need to surrender and trust that He loves you.

“But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him’” —1 Corinthians 2:9

Healing is Believing: Interview with Andrea Vecchio

Part One Audio

Part Two Audio

How We Can Actively Move in Faith as We Go through Challenging Life Seasons

It is inevitable that, in life, we will go through seasons of pain and suffering. Jesus said it Himself that we will face troubles (John 16:33), but He has also promised us that we will overcome them through Him.

But how do we move forward from these troubling times? How do we continue fighting and walking?

The road to healing may be long and bumpy, but it is a worthwhile journey to take.

These are some of the things I learned from my conversation with Andrea Vecchio and from my own journey, too.

  1. Surround yourself with people who will build you up.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” —Proverbs 27:17

When you’re healing, you will likely tell yourself a lot of discouragements. It is normal because you’re hurting and all you can see are your mistakes and incapabilities.

This is where the encouragement from people comes in, to remind you that there is hope and that you can get through this better and stronger.

2. Go back to your foundation.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you…” —John 15:16

Who made you? Who was there from the very beginning

Remind yourself that God has a plan and a purpose for everything that you are going through, even if these things are hard to see at the moment.

You need to go back to all the tough times you went through before and how God has carried you. Surely, He will do the same in this season of your life. He is faithful and unchanging

3. Share your life and inspire others.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” —John 15:16

We have heard this time and again: the best way to heal is by healing others.

Your life may be in chaos but God always uses the broken to heal others. Allow God to use your story as a testimony to bring others healing and encouragement.

Our pain only makes sense when we surrender this to God and allow Him to transform the ashes into something beautiful.

How often do you feel hindered or stuck, waiting on God to reveal what He is trying to show you? Take a deep breath and know that all God wants you to do, is to first “TRY” to hear His Voice and make the pathway clear so He can speak to you!

This week, we learn the important concept of “The Power of the Try”  from one of my dear friends, and the pastor of Journey Church - Pastor Jim Wilkes.

“We feel like we have to do it perfect - but all God is looking for is for us to “try”. As Pastor Jim says, you will be amazed if you position your heart today, and say,  “God, I want to hear your Voice today. I am going to be attentive to hear the Holy Spirit”.

As you listen to this interview you will learn about Pastor Jim's journey from the business and ministry worlds. Pastor Jim has lived a life in the foundation of God’s Word, but also has constantly lived and stepped out in total faith. He also shares about a massive career shift after the death of a family member that led him to lead a company in New Orleans assisting with rebuilding after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina... Something he knew NOTHING about, but was successful at because he obediently obeyed the Lord after listening to His voice!

Listen in as Jim and I discuss:

  • How to be intentional when talking to God and hearing His Voice

  • How God speaks uniquely to YOU in ways you can understand and in the degree that you allow him

  • How God’s Voice, guidance and wisdom will lead you through things that are opposite of what your natural mind wants to do.

  • The small nudges from the Holy Spirit to step out in faith when things didn’t even logically make sense at that time.

  • One of the most important concepts… God’s Peace is a confirmation of the Word of God!

In my interview with Dr. Clem Ferris, a pastor, a speaker, and author of; Stewarding Prophecy - Waging Warfare with God's Word, he shares, when it comes to hearing a Word from God, whether through reading the written Word or hearing a Word spoken through the voice within you, it is always designed for action.
